JUNIOR FIREFIGHTERS
About the Buchanan Valley Fire Department Junior Firefighter Program
The Buchanan Valley Fire Department Junior Firefighter program has been a great asset to the Fire Department for many years. The program is designed to teach the skills necessary to become a firefighter. Many who have come through the BVFD Junior firefighter program have gone on to become career firefighters, Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT), and 911 dispatchers. Through the Junior firefighter program Juniors learn about honesty, courage, self-pride, and responsibility. The Juniors are also encouraged to take Pennsylvania State Certified classes preparing them to become firefighters or EMT’s which will also help them get the obtain a job in the Public Safety field. For the parents, the Buchanan Valley Fire Department takes pride in ensuring the safety of all of its members with a special emphasis on the Juniors. Our Junior Firefighter program follows the Pennsylvania State Child Labor Laws for guidance in regulating our Standard Operating Procedures.
