Buchanan Valley Fire Department is an all volunteer organization.  We provide fire, rescue and emergency medical services to our community.  We also assist neighboring fire department on incidents when requested. Our number one goal is to provide the best fire, rescue and emergency medical service that we can.  The way that we accomplish this goal is through countless hours of training;  it is a 6 month long program to become an Emergency Medical Technician.  To be a firefighter is another 6 months.  These are the basic training needed to serve the community. In addition, there are other special trainings required by the department that our members go through.

In addition to training and running calls, our members volunteer their time at the fire house for fund raisers to raise money to keep the fire department operating.  The fire department is funded by donations and money raised throughout the year. Without your donation and the hard work of our members we would not be able to run this fire department. Unlike Maryland, in Pennsylvania the fire department is not tax based. This means that there is no fire tax that pays for the fire department.
