Message from the Chief
To All BVFD Members,
I would like to take this chance to thank all the Members who ran calls in February. February was the busiest month we have ever had for fire calls. Out of the 34 runs, we had 5 working fires and 1 entrapment. Added with a busy month of Fund Raisers February seemed very busy for all.

Feb. 28th-Box Alarm- BVFD was alerted for a house fire in Franklin County Box 16-2 5473 Spruce Road Quincy Twp. ET27 went enroute, while enroute ET27 was cancelled by Franklin County.
Feb. 25th-MVA- BVFD was alerted for an MVA reported to be just west of the entrance of The Village of Laurel Run 6375 Chambersburg Road. Deputy 27 responded and County advised that one report of a single vehicle off the roadway. ET27 went enroute, Deputy 27 arrived in the area and found the vehicle gone on arrival. All units were placed in service.
Feb. 21st- Box Alarm- BVFD was alerted this evening for a house fire in Franklin County Box 16-1 at 12201 Loop Road. ET27 and the Chief responded with four personnel. ET27 was cancelled while enroute by Franklin County Command 16.
Feb. 21st- MVA - BVFD was alerted this morning for an MVA in the 2500 block of Old Route 30 Box 4-4. ET27 and the Chief responded with three personnel. ET27 and Squad 4 arrived on location and found one vehicle off the roadway that had sheared off a utility pole. The pt was treated and transported to a local hospital by Fairfield Fire/EMS. ET27 was then released by Command 4.
Feb. 19th-Box Alarm- BVFD was alerted to 11343 Loop Road Franklin County Box 16-1 for an upgraded assignment from shed fire to house fire. ET27 and the Deputy responded with three personnel, ET27 had to leave a few members behind due to preparing for the Shrimp Feed. ET27 arrived on location and dumped one load of water (2000 gal), and then proceeded to assist with water supply operations on the scene. ET27 was then released by Franklin Command 16 South Mountain. Feb. 19th-Box Alarm- BVFD was just clearing the Franklin County call when Adams County Control advised to copy for the Box Alarm. ET27,E27,B27 and the Chief responded with six personnel, to the 2700 block of Old Route 30 for a working shed fire. ET27 and B27 arrived on location and confirmed a large wood shed fully involved. ET27 put two 1"3/4 hand lines in service. E4-1 arrived on location and supplied ET27, and crew assisted with fire attack. E27 arrived on location and supplied E4-1, Command 4 then requested all other apparatus to stage on Old Route 30. After main fire attack was completed, B27 hooked into a 1"3/4 line and put the CAFS (compressed air foam system) into service. After a short overhaul Command 4 placed the box in service, BVFD returned to quarters. Thank You to Adams Co. 7 Bendersville for covering "THE VALLEY". Feb. 19th-Brush Fire- BVFD was alerted for a brush fire in Franklin County Box 7-6 10348 Golf Course Rd. B27 and the Chief and ET27 responded with four personnel. ET27 was originally not due on the box but was requested by Franklin County. Units arrived on location and found a tree on wires and live wires causing the brush fire. 27 units staged until being released by Franklin Command 7. Feb. 14th- Transfer- BVFD was alerted for a transfer to Franklin County Station 4 quarters while they operated on a house fire in Chambersburg Borough. No calls were handled while E27 was at Station 4. E27 was released later in the evening by Station 4.
Feb. 14th- Transfer- BVFD was alerted for a transfer to Franklin County Co. 7 quarters. ET-27 was just going available from the Adams 7-3 box and went responding with three personnel. After running no incidents ET-27 was placed in service by Co. 7. Feb. 14th- Box Alarm- BVFD was alerted for smoke in a residence in Adams Box 7-3 on Old Railroad Road. ET-27 and the Chief and E27 responded with four personnel. ET-27 arrived on location and was requested back the lane, all other units per command were to hold on Wenksville Road. ET-27 arrived at the residence and crew was requested to ladder the chimney to investigate. Nothing was found and Command 7 placed the box in service. (*No wildlife was harmed during the filming of this emergency incident*) Feb. 13th-Box Alarm- BVFD was alerted to Franklin County Box 16-2 for a chimney fire with extension in the 5300 block of Spruce Road Quincy Twp. ET-27 and the Chief responded with five personnel. ET-27 arrived on location and crew assisted with opening up the walls of the residence to confirm extension per Command 16. Command 16 placed the box available and ET-27 returned to quarters.
(???? Who's 5" is that ????) Feb. 13th-MVA- BVFD was alerted this morning for a Motor Vehicle Accident in box 27-7 the 6200 block of Chambersburg Road. ET-27 and the Chief responded with six personnel. Deputy Chief 27 arrived on location and advised two vehicles one class 3 pt. ET-27 arrived on location and handled fluid control, while Fayetteville EMS took pt care and transported one pt to a local hospital. Box was placed in service shortly after, Fire Police remained on location to assist PSP with traffic control. Feb. 9th-Transfer- BVFD was alerted for a transfer to Franklin County Co. 5 Mont Alto. E27 and the Assistant responded with three personnel. After being at Co. 5 for about an hour E27 was requested to the scene of the house fire in Franklin Box 4-1 on Pennersville Road. E27 arrived after a scenic ride over the mountain, and assisted with mop up and loading of over a miles worth of LDH. E27 was then released by Command 4. Feb. 8th-Box Alarm- The Pre-Alert was sounded this evening for a Barn fire on Mount Carmel Rd Box 4-3. BVFD responded with ET-27 and the Assistant, and E27 with a total of eight personnel. ET-27 arrived on location and supplied E4-3, while personnel went to help with fire attack. ET-27 dropped it's portable tank per Command 4 and then ET-27 and E27 jumped into the tanker shuttle line and hauled a combined four loads of water (7500 gal.) After overhaul operations were completed Command 4 placed the box in service. Thank you to Chief 4 for hauling our frozen portable tank back to Co. 4 were it was later picked up.
Feb. 7th-MVA W/Entrapment- BVFD along with Cashtown SQ4 and Fayetteville EMS were alerted for a motor vehicle accident reported to be a tractor trailer vs a car with entrapment at the intersection of Buchanan Valley Road and Chambersburg Road. Deputy 27 went on location confirming dispatch with one vehicle under the trailer. ET-27 and SQ4 arrived on location and went to work freeing the pt. After pt was removed from the vehicle Fayetteville EMS transported to a local hospital. Chambersburg Road remained closed for a good while into the morning due to damage that the tractor trailer received. (Pictures provided by Curtis Bryan) Feb. 6th-Box Alarm- Pre-Alert was sounded for Box 27-7 for a working building fire in the 6200 Block of Chambersburg Rd. ET-27 and the Chief, E-27,B-27 responded with a total of ten personnel. ET-27 arrived on location and advised that a two story 40X80 garage was fully involved and was near a house. A five inch supply line was laid from the hydrants at The Village of Laurel Run to the scene. After a defensive attack was performed Chief 27 placed the fire under control and units started overhaul operations. Apparatus cleared at 23:05 hours. Departments on the box: BVFD, Cashtown E4-1, Arendtsville E5-1,Tower 5, Bendersville E7-2, Franklin Depts: Fayetteville E7-1 E7-2, South Mountain E16-2, Mont Alto Tanker 5, New Franklin Truck 17, Franklins Squad 41, Fayetteville EMS. Feb. 5th-Box Alarm-Pre-Alert was sounded for Box 27-5 for odor of smoke in a residence. ET-27 and the Chief, E-27 and the Assistant, B-27 and the deputy responded with seven personnel. Response by all departments was slowed due to the adverse weather conditions. ET-27 and the Chief arrived on location and found nothing showing from the exterior, Chief 27 held all responding units on the hard road and had B-27 shuttle man power back the driveway. After investigation members found the cause to be burnt wires in the furnace. Chief 27 held Co.27, E4-1,E5-1, and EMS. No extension was found and Chief 27 placed the box in service, thank you to the "VILLE" for covering the "VALLEY".
Feb. 5th-Banquet- BVFD members took the evening off, for the annual BVFD Awards Banquet. Members started the evening off with a delicious meal prepared by Fayetteville Vol. Fire Department, and then the awards were presented to the following members. Top Three Fire Responders: Rick Elliott, Walter Wagaman, Christopher Elliott Top Three EMS Responders: James Arter Jr, Rick Elliott, Michael Spielman Firefighter of the Year: James Arter Jr Member of the Year: John Baker A special thank you to Franklin County Co. 16 South Mountain for covering "THE VALLEY" so ours members could enjoy the evening off.
Feb. 3rd-Transfer-BVFD was alerted for a transfer to Franklin County Company 16 South Mountain. E-27 and the Captain responded with four personnel. After being placed in service, Co. 16 was alerted for another incident and E-27 was requested back to Co.16. After being placed in service again E-27 returned to quarters.
Feb. 2nd- DEMO- This evening BVFD members had the pleasure of demonstrating a exhaust removal system from Plymovent. The next demo for exhaust removal system will be by Neiderman Exhaust Removal and the date will be March 2,2011 at 1800. All members are encouraged to attend, there will also be another demo posted at a later date. Feb. 2nd-CO Emergency- BVFD was alerted for a CO Emergency in Franklin Box 7-5. ET-27 and the Chief responded with four personnel, while en route ET-27 was placed in service by Franklin Command 7. Feb. 2nd-Utility Wires- BVFD responded for a report of wires down and arching in the 3400 block of Old Route 30. Brush 27 and the Chief arrived on location and found a transformer on fire and wires down. Electric company was notified and units returned available.
